Visit to France

On 18 May 2018, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva was on a visit to France.

A conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Koichiro Matsuura

On May 18, a conference took place at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, to mark the 80th anniversary of Koichiro Matsuura, who had been the organization’s director general during 1999-2009.

Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event.

Meeting with UNESCO director general

On May 18, Mehriban Aliyeva met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay at the headquarters of the organization.

Audrey Azoulay thanked Mehriban Aliyeva for her participation in the event hosted in connection with the 80th anniversary of Koichiro Matsuura.

Mehriban Aliyeva brought to attention that the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is celebrated in Azerbaijan this year, noting that Azerbaijan has reached many achievements during the past 100 years. The most important of them was granting women the right to elect and be elected, which is in compliance with the purposes and mandate of UNESCO. Holding of joint events in the course of this year together with UNESCO has been considered in this connection. Director General Audrey Azoulay said she would support these events. She appreciated the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the achievements reached worth of esteem.
